Virtual Event: The Art (and Wisdom) of Contemplative Practices
Perennial Habits Course (May 24th at 7:00 pm EST)
The Art (and Wisdom) of Contemplative Practices
As discussed in Three Ways to Meditate in the Modern World, there are many ways to think about and practice stillness. The late Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Meditation is not evasion; it is a serene encounter with reality.” Whether it is meditation, contemplation, or prayer, these types of contemplative practices exist across philosophical and spiritual traditions.
Contemplative practices can be challenging to integrate into daily life.
As the seventeenth-century philosopher Blaise Pascal observed, “All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” Strangely, it is not uncommon for us to have the desire to adopt a stillness practice while simultaneously experiencing internal resistance.
Want to learn more about contemplative practices?
Join us for a casual gathering on The Art (and Wisdom) of Contemplative Practices. The event begins at 7:00 pm EST on Wednesday, May 24th — register now. I’ll be joined by Dr. Brian Russell (author of Centering Prayer) to discuss integrating stillness practices into daily life.
