Virtual Event: The Art (and Practice) of Stoic Wisdom
Perennial Habits Course (May 10th at 6:00 pm EST)
Greetings Readers!
You are cordially invited to a casual gathering on The Art (and Practice) of Stoic Wisdom. Although this virtual event is part of our Perennial Habits Course, everyone is welcome to attend! The event begins at 6:00 pm EST on May 10th — register now.
The Art (and Practice) of Stoic Wisdom
Stoicism is an ancient philosophy of life designed to help one live the good life. The Stoics believed the reason to study philosophy was to become a better person in daily life. As Seneca put it in a letter to Lucilius,
No one can live a truly happy life, or even a bearable life, without philosophy; also, while it is complete wisdom that renders a life happy, even to begin that study makes life bearable.
The wisest students of human nature in ancient times, and perhaps of all time, were known as the Stoics, writes Ward Farnsworth (author of The Practicing Stoic). Farnsworth explains that the original Stoics were highly practical philosophers who offered solutions to everyday life problems and advice about overcoming irrationalities that are still relevant today.
For example, the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote this to himself, “Do external things distract you? Then make time for yourself to learn something worthwhile; stop letting yourself be pulled in all directions.” In truth, many of us are more distracted than ever. But doing something about it can be challenging.
Perennial habits (and Stoic exercises) are timeless practices designed to help us start intentionally leading our lives. Register below to attend a casual conversation on how to integrate Stoic practices into daily life!
