Greetings Readers!
Here is the next volume of our series — The Wisdom of Art. This series invites us to pause from our busy lives to explore the wisdom of art and poetry.
***There’s still time to register for Happiness & the Meaning of Life. The course is free for Perennial Meditations members and includes email meditations (Tuesday and Saturday) and an end-of-course meetup on Saturday (14 Oct at Noon EST).
Here is a painting, a poem, and a bit of prose…
1. The Storm on the Sea of Galilee (Painting)
The Storm on the Sea of Galilee is Rembrandt's only seascape ever painted. It depicts Jesus calming the waves of the sea, saving the lives of the fourteen men aboard the vessel. Of these fourteen men, it is said Rembrandt included a self-portrait of himself in the boat next to Jesus and his twelve disciples.
“Rembrandt goes so deep into the mysterious that he says things for which there are no words in any language. It is with justice that they call Rembrandt—magician—that's no easy occupation.”
—Vincent van Gogh
