The Beauty of Wonder
This week’s Saturday Meditation comes from Albert Einstein, who stressed and embraced the crucial role of wonder in all aspects of life. Einstein observed,
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whosoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed.
As discussed in Making Sense of the Mind, our minds naturally label and categorize the things we see in the world. This process of categorizing and labeling is necessary for daily habits, routines, and even language. But it also has a downside. Our minds can distort and dull our perception to experience the awe, wonder, and beauty of life.
